John H. Love, 85, of Etowah, NC went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2021 because of Covid-19 related issues. He was born in Washington, DC to the late George W. and Emma Lee Kilpatrick Love. John was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe T. Love; and a grandson, John Philip Rutherfurd.
John graduated from Etowah High School and attended Western Carolina College for two years before choosing to serve his country in the Army from 1955-57. Stationed in Okinawa he became a corporal while serving with the military police. After his discharge from the Army, he completed his BS degree and enjoyed a 32 year career with DuPont in Brevard.
A longtime member of Etowah Baptist Church, his service was centered in teaching, deacon responsibilities and finances. His community service consisted of 18 years on the Henderson County Board of Education; 15 years as a trustee of BRCC and a longtime volunteer at the Historic Johnson Farm. As a couple he and his wife were inducted into the Henderson County Education Foundation Hall of Fame in 2013.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Wanda Sumner Love; daughters, Linda Underwood (Steve) of St. Cloud, FL; Melanie Love of Etowah, Joy Rutherfurd (Eric) of Asheville, and Janie Lee Brown (Jason) of Travelers Rest, SC; grandchildren, Jessica, Carter, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Grace and John Aaron; great-grandchild, Cullen; and brother, Ed Love (Kathy) of Greeneville, TN.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. Memorial contributions can be made to the General Fund of Etowah Baptist Church, PO Box 326, Etowah, NC 28729.
